Test of character

hola

Well it has been really long since my last post. My blog was about to go almost an entire month without posts. The reason for that is not my slackness, rather it just is an example of how little time I had this month. My college has really picked up its pace. More like I have taken up a lot of responsibility which has kept me running back and forth the entire month.

Though I did not have the mental capacity to write anything interesting up till now this month, I did however get time to watch this month drama called Ichi Ritoru no Namida. As I have already mentioned in the preivous post, it translates to 1 litre of tears. It is a very so-real drama series which in the literal sense makes the audience shed 1 litre of tears with the protagonist, if not more.

The series is about a 15 year old girl, Ikeuchi Aya, who has just entered High School, and finds out that she has been diagnosed with a disease known as Spinal Cerebellum Degeneration, which apparently has no cure. The disease leads to the degeneration of cells which control the motor functionality of the body. So eventually the patient is said to lose all control over their body. It starts with lose of depth perception, falling uncontrollably, degradation of mobility, then proceeds to functional degeneration of hands and speech, etc. It indeed is a very cruel disease. And the first time the protagonist and the audience realise the truth depth of the disease is when she asks her mother, "Why did the disease choose me?"

In the series, is another lead character, Asou Haruto, who is Aya's classmate. Their relationship is shown to grow very beautifully. The boy's father, who is a doctor at the same hospital where Aya is being treated, advises him to stop seeing her since he is still a kid and does not realise the true meaning of being in a relationship with a disabled person. However, Haruto chooses to act on impulse and always stands by Aya. And this is what touched me the most. It truly was a test of his character which he past with flying colours.

One point in the series, Aya requests Haruto to stop seeing her, since it could be too painful. He stops for a while, but soon realises that he is in love with her and can't abandon her. He runs to her and say, "No matter how badly you speak, I will listen. No matter how slow you walk, I will walk with you by your side. If you are unable to talk on the phone, I will run to you." This moment was the defining point of their relationship.

In real life as well, one's true character is determined in times of crisis. How much a person really loves another, is judged not by how much she/he cares for the other in times of happiness, but by how much she/he is there to support in times of saddness. If one is lucky enough to find such a partner, she/he is truly blessed in the most real sense of the word.

And I guess, that is what we are all looking for in the end. Personally, I believe that I can stand by someone in such a predicament. However, I would never want someone I love to be diagnosed with such cruel fate. In fact no one should deserve to live with that. But if the world has to inflict people with such a fate, atleast humans should break the laws of nature and find a cure for it.

That's all I have to say... since the memory of the series is still fresh in my head which only depresses me further! :(
